Avtalen er gyldig i tre år og ble undertegnet av EPOs president Benoît Battistelli og OECDs vise-generalsekretær Richard Boucher.

I denne forbindelse sa Battistelli følgende:
"The OECD and the EPO already enjoy a long-standing relationship which has borne fruit in a number of significant projects, such as the analysis of patent statistics in the field of clean energy technologies. The new memorandum of understanding illustrates the Office's willingness to better understand how the patent system contributes to the dynamics of knowledge creation, and how that impact can be optimised for the benefit of the economy, and indirectly of society."
