Applying for a trademark

In Norway

To register your trademark in Norway, you file an application for trademark registration to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office.

A Norwegian trademark registration provides protection only in Norway. If you wish to apply for trademark protection abroad, it is nevertheless an advantage if you begin the process by filing a national application, for example in Norway.

Electronic filing

For Norwegian residents and companies operating in Norway: for reasons of security and traceability, we recommend that you file your trademark application and related correspondence online via Altinn. You will receive a receipt immediately.

It is also possible to file your application using the form in PDF format, if you prefer.

Applying for trademark registration abroad

If you wish to protect your trademark abroad, you must apply directly to each individual country. If you wish to apply for protection in many countries, it is easier and cheaper to submit one international application via the Madrid Protocol or apply for a Community Trademark.
