Important change regarding filing international patent applications under PCT

(15th January 2020): ePCT and eOLF are replacing PCT-SAFE as a tool for filing international patent applications from 6th February 2020. After this date, it will no longer be possible to file international patent applications via PCT-SAFE to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO).

WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) is planning to phase out PCT-SAFE as a tool for filing international patent applications under PCT.

As Receiving Office for international applications under PCT, NIPO has therefore decided that we will no longer accept PCT applications in electronic form using PCT-SAFE, with effect from 6th February 2020. We have sent notification of this to the International Bureau (WIPO).

See Official Notices (PCT Gazette) - 5 December 2019 (pages 189 and 192)

PCT applications filed via ePCT and eOLF qualify for a discount depending on the document format of the application. We therefore encourage you to use one of these systems. Alternatively, you can file your application by ordinary mail or by correspondence via Altinn.
