Apply for a trademark in Norway
Apply for a trademark
Use our application guide for a simpler and faster application process. You can fill out and send your application, pay and receive a receipt, all in one operation. You get useful tips and everything you do is saved along the way.
The application guide requires you to pay online when you file your application (BankAxess, Visa and Mastercard).
Once you have filed your application, all further correspondence in the application process between you and NIPO will take place online. All correspondence will be available under "My Messages" and in your Altinn message box.
Have you already started an application or just sent one?
Other ways to file an application
- If you wish to apply using Altinn, or apply for a collective mark or an untraditional trademark (such as a soundmark or a three-dimensional trademark), you can use our application form in Altinn. Here you can pay online or request an invoice to be sent.
Apply via Altinn (NB: The application form is in Norwegian)
- No Norwegian personal ID number?
To send in an application via Altinn you need a Norwegian personal ID number. If you do not have such a number, you can use the application form in PDF format or ODT format. You can print and send this form to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office by post, or as an attachment to an e-mail. See contact details at the bottom of this page.

Applying for trademark registration abroad
If you wish to protect your trademark abroad, you must apply directly to each individual country. If you wish to apply for protection in many countries, it is easier and cheaper to submit one international application via the Madrid Protocol or apply for a Community Trademark.
