Apply for a trademark in Norway

We recommend that you read all 10 items before you click «Start new trademark application».

7. Trademark registration in other countries

A Norwegian trademark registration is valid only in Norway. You should therefore apply to have your trademark registered in all those countries where you intend to use it commercially, and also in the country where you intend to manufactur your goods.

If you wish to register your trademark abroad, you have the following possibilities:

  • Apply directly to each country
  • Apply using the Madrid Protocol
  • Apply for an EU trademark

If you apply in Norway first, you can keep the same filing date (priority date) when you apply internationally, as long as you apply within six months from the date you filed your application to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO).

The product selector will help you find internationally approved terms for goods and services. Read more about the product selector.
