Who can be nominated?
The award is open to all startups and companies in Norway that meet these conditions:
- is a registered business in Norway (documentation required)
- has fewer than 250 employees at the time of application
- owns at least one registered IP right
How are the nominees evaluated?
The Norwegian and Nordic jury evaluates the nominees according to these criteria:
The innovation must represent a new and innovative approach using cutting-edge science or technology, unique methods, or creative problem-solving strategies.
The innovation should have a positive impact on sustainability and contribute to one or more of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The innovation should form the basis for a viable business model and have the potential to scale across multiple geographic areas in the Nordic region or globally.
The innovation must demonstrate proven results. We prefer solutions that have already demonstrated some success, whether through sales revenue, market penetration, pilot programs, case studies, or proven methodologies.
The innovation must be protected by registered IP rights (patents, trademark or design registration) in relevant markets.
In addition, the business's strategic use of IP can be taken into account.
Practical information
- Nomination deadline : February 28, 2026.
Cost : Nomination is free and requires you to accept the competition terms and conditions.
Norwegian finalist : The Norwegian jury selects one finalist who will compete with the finalists from the other Nordic countries.
Selection : The Nordic jury will evaluate the five national finalists and select the winner in April 2026.
Award ceremony : May 21 at the Nordic Innovation Award Show in Oslo.
Competition terms
The person nominated as a finalist agrees to cooperate with the organizers of the Nordic Innovation Award. This includes consenting to interviews from the press and other media, photography and/or filming. The Nordic organizers reserve the right to publish the finalists' and winners' innovations and related information on websites and in marketing materials (publications, exhibition media, etc.) without compensation to the participant. Neither reproduction nor access rights will be paid for documents submitted for the award. The Nordic organizers also reserve the right to record and publish videos and images from the award ceremony without compensation to the applicant.
The finalists will be invited to the Nordic Innovation Award event in Oslo in May 2026. They will have their travel and accommodation expenses covered. The winner of the Nordic Innovation Award will receive a certificate and a digital token. Finalists and the winner will be featured on the five Nordic Innovation Award websites, in newsletters and in other marketing and multimedia materials published to disseminate information about this event.

Norwegian Cartesian wins Nordic Innovation Award
The award is new this year and has been established by the patent offices of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway. During the final in Copenhagen on April 10, the Trondheim company Cartesian emerged victorious ahead of the other Nordic candidates.
