This is how the product selector works

An application for trademark registration must contain an overview of the products (goods or services) on which the trademark is to be used.

Why use the product selector?

The product selector is a useful tool for creating an overview of pre-approved specifications. If you use pre-approved information, your application will go through more easily in Norway and internationally. The product selector contains more than 70,000 goods and services that the Norwegian Industrial Property Office accepts.

How to search for products?

  1. You can search for the products directly in the search field. When you have created a hit list, you can sort "by class" or by words that are most similar to your search term, i.e. "by relevance".
  2. You can also find out what is in a product or service class by hovering the mouse pointer over a class number in the overview of classes to see the heading for the class. If you click on the class number, you will see all the products in that class. From the hit list, you can click on the details you want to include in your application.

When you have chosen the products you want to include in your application, you can either start a trademark application directly in Altinn or via the application guide.

You can also click on "Download/Translate/Save" to get the list in a PDF or Word document. In the document, the products are automatically translated into English so that it will be easy for you to continue the application to other countries later.

The list of products cannot be expanded after the application has been submitted.

We offer "advanced tools"

"Advanced tools" offer functionality we consider especially useful for professional players, but are available to everyone.

You can paste in a list of products or retrieve a product list from a previous application or registration.

The tool helps you effectively identify whether a term is pre-approved, misclassified or if a duplicate exists.

For example, if you click on a term that is wrongly classified, a search is fired and you can then click on an approved term from the results list to replace it with.

Use the i-buttons actively for guidance.

The service has strong support for translation, and we hope you will enjoy the service a lot.

For those who are going to apply for registration in other countries

It is useful to know which other countries accept the products you choose. We have therefore created a system of color codes:

  • Products approved in all countries are marked with a blue square ("Nice list")
  • Products WIPO accepts in international Madrid applications are shown with a gray square. To see which countries approve the declaration in question, you must look up the Madrid Goods & Services Manager .
  • Entries marked with a black square show that they are part of the EU countries' Harmonized Database (HDB) . Norway and several other countries participate in HDB (a collaboration under the auspices of EUIPO). In this group of terms, you will find over 62,000 entries translated into Norwegian.
