Agent / patent attorney

An agent or patent attorney is someone who has been given the right to act on behalf of others.

The Norwegian Industrial Property Office does not require you to appoint an agent or attorney, but situations may arise in which an agent is nevertheless desirable or necessary.

In Norway there are private patent agencies that can assist, for instance, in preparing patent, trademark and design applications, both in Norway and abroad. They can also keep track of important time limits and payments.

If you are not particularly knowledgeable in the field of industrial rights or have little time to work with the application process, you should consider using a professional patent agency.
