When we say that a trademark is descriptive, it means that it only says something about the product or service.
For example the word WINTER or WARM for a jacket tells the consumer that the jacket is designed for use in winter. SUPER informs you that the products are of good quality, and FAMILY tells you something about who the products are intended for. Descriptive words of this type can not be registered as trademarks.
