Search services - before applying for a patent
Explore the search services we offer in the patent area and choose the search service that best suits your needs. All assignments, from short novelty searches to large patent landscape analyses, are carried out in accordance with statutory confidentiality. If you order an assignment, you are assured of full confidentiality.
Overview of patent search services
Dialogue search
Get an overview of relevant patents. A dialogue search is a targeted search for patent publications that describe an invention or idea.
Novelty search
Do you want to find out if your invention is new before you apply for a patent? A novelty search gives you an overview of patent publications and other publications, so-called non-patent literature (NPL), that may be relevant to your invention. We adapt the search to your needs.
Freedom to Operate search
A safer path to market. Developing a new product or industrial process is expensive. With a Freedom to Operate search, you can assess the risk of infringing on someone else's patent rights.
Patent landscape analysis
comprehensive picture of trends, activities, and players within a specific technology area. This type of analysis provides insights that allow you to make strategic choices to plan research and development (R&D), shape industry policy, and find new market opportunities.
Validity search
Are you unsure about the validity of a patent? A validity search may reveal further documents not found during search and examination of the patent in question. The new documents found may clarify the scope of a patent or possibly invalidate the patent.
ISO certified services
The Norwegian Industrial Property Office's services are ISO certified. The ISO certification confirms that we work purposefully to offer search services of the right quality to our customers.
Reservations
The searches are conducted in publicly available information. The result of a search is not binding on the Norwegian Industrial Property Office in the event of a later application.
In some cases, the Norwegian Industrial Property Office cannot carry out commissioned assignments. This applies, for example, if a request relates to a patent examined by us.
Check for yourself
Regardless of whether you choose to order a search service from us or not, you can search the Norwegian patent register or international databases yourself to check whether your invention is new.
